Mobile Communications - Panasonic, UTStarcom JV Develops 3G Indoor Base Stations

Universal Communications Technology, a Hangzhou-based joint venture between Panasonic and UTStarcom Inc. has developed a compact W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) indoor base station to serve areas that are inaccessible for outdoor base stations, such as underground malls or small office buildings. Production capacity will be expanded at the Chinese joint venture in order to start with mass production within the fiscal year 2005. These indoor base stations will only be sold to NTT DoCoMo initially.
